USF: Innovator of the the CNL
Premier Course Offerings for a Growing Profession
While the Clinical Nurse Leader role continues to grow, the University of San Francisco School of Nursing and Health Professions continue to advance the nursing industry at the forefront. In 2005, our School of Nursing and Health Professions became the first to offer an MSN in Clinical Nurse Leadership.
Today the University of San Francisco School of Nursing and Health Professions is made up of the largest number of Clinical Nurse Leader-certified faculty members, who come from all backgrounds–clinicians, managers, practitioners, and executives. They act as advisors and mentors, helping nursing students with career planning and clinical guidance.
Since 2008, the University of San Francisco has hosted an annual Clinical Nurse Leader Conference in an effort to share progress of the implementation and growth of this role. Attendees are comprised of former students, managers, educators, and practice partners who come together to share successes, challenges, and outcomes of the Clinical Nurse Leadership model.
The theme of the 2011 conference was, “An Implementation Toolkit for the CNL Role.” The goal of this 2-day meeting was to provide a working toolkit for implementing the CNL role. The conference offered a platform for CNLs, managers, educators, and practice partners to share their successes, challenges, and outcomes of the CNL model. The 2012 theme is “Leadership in Action: Past, Present, Future.” The conference provides current and future CNLs an excellent opportunity to networks with professional peers and keep abreast of the latest advancements in the field.
Expanding Clinical Nurse Leadership Education
The creation of the online MSN Clinical Nurse Leader program at the University of San Francisco further portrays our level of dedication to help improve the quality of health care and patient outcomes in nursing. The online program gives nurses worldwide a chance to become certified as a Clinical Nurse Leader.
Enrolling in the online MSN Clinical Nurse Leader program means being part of a one-of-a-kind experience that combines evidence-based practice, leadership skills, and implementation with the power of Jesuit tradition, all with the underlying goal of creating a more humane and just world.
